Shanghai Digital Monochrome: Power Station of Art

We went to the Power Station of Art, and I happily brought my 600D with my nifty-fifty lens along do a a bit of indoors street photography.

He’s either an artist or a priest…

_MG_8673 mono 640

A photograph of a person taking a photograph… that’s the master trope of this post.

I am looking at people who are looking at art.

_MG_8674 mono 640

Perhaps a case can be made that I am also making art of my own, out of art itself.

_MG_8683 mono 640

This is art quoting art.

_MG_8700 mono 640

Fabric mirroring fabric…

_MG_8709 mono 640

Museum goers are also performing a kind of art…

_MG_8715 mono 640

Someone doesn’t like Dickens… or perhaps this is a comment on China…

_MG_8721 mono 640

Don’t ask me what it means…

_MG_8731 mono 640

See for yourself.

_MG_8739 mono 640

And have a dialogue.

_MG_8742 mono 640

Hmm…

_MG_8745 mono 640

Hmm…

_MG_8746 mono 640

Hmm…

_MG_8754 mono 640

The gift shop is tastefully done.

_MG_8755 mono 640

The helicopter view of the gift shop.

_MG_8767 mono 640

The real is a shadow … the pose is clear.

_MG_8768 mono 640

Participatory art… we like to see ourselves in art.

_MG_8774 mono 640

Is art real?

_MG_8776 mono 640

Always read what it says…

_MG_8780 mono 640

An owl of Minerva…

_MG_8793 mono 640

So many texts and subtexts…

_MG_8796 mono 640

The elephant in the room…

_MG_8806 mono 640

Even the pipes look arty!

_MG_8807 mono 640

Is this art?

_MG_8808 mono 640

Can this be art?

_MG_8809 mono 640

Better consult the catalogues…

_MG_8810 mono 640

Is it in the book?

_MG_8811 mono 640

We need to do some close reading.

_MG_8828 mono 640

There’s a decorum here, for the sake of the decor…

_MG_8831 mono 640

We need to find out more…

_MG_8835 mono 640

Look some more…

_MG_8845 mono 640

Pay close attention.

_MG_8849 mono 640

Look up…

_MG_8859 mono 640

Look down at the screen.

_MG_8861 mono 640

The answer is in the smartphone.

Thanks for dropping by, and don’t forget to check out my Saatchi Art page!

Reblogged this on Being Southern Somewhere Else and commented:
I love his photography–the work here is so crisp. I like to scroll through and just look at what he’s captured, then go back and move along slowly, reading the captions. Art created by people looking at art–one of my favorite creative themes.
